Who was Jacques Coeur, Charles VII's treasurer
Jacques Coeur (1395-1456), son of a Bourges furrier, became the kingdom's first international businessman. Master of Mints from 1436, treasurer of Charles VII in 1438. At peak: 300 merchant ships, trading posts across Mediterranean, fortune estimated 27 million gold écus (2 billion euros today). Motto: "To valiant hearts nothing is impossible." His fall in 1451 (witchcraft trial). The route created in 1954 links 16 sites.

Façade with scallop shells and hearts (rebus on owner's name), 30 rooms, giant fireplace, private chapel, "galley tower" with ship bas-relief. Entry 9 euros, 1.5h visit.
