The Château de Meung-sur-Loire
Our direct neighbour, 100 metres from La Maison du Château. The château with two faces — medieval (13th c.) on the town side and classical (18th c.) on the garden side. Over 2000 objects on display, attics to undergrounds. 1h30 to 2h interior visit. Kids' activities: dragon trail, suspended nets, Minimes farm. Special activities during school holidays (escape games, costumed visits). Around €12. A must-do.
The Saint-Liphard collegiate church
100 metres from the château. Romanesque and Gothic church 11th-13th c., dedicated to Saint Liphard, a local hermit. Remarkable historiated capitals (sculpted medieval scenes), relics. 9th-century crypt accessible. Free entry. Plan 20 minutes. One of the oldest still-active churches in the Loiret.
The Loire banks 100 metres away
Redesigned Loire quays 100 metres from the house. Cycle path (Loire by Bike), benches, picnic meadows, sandy beach in summer. Memorable sunsets on the river. Ideal late-afternoon walk before dinner. In summer, the riverside guinguette (music, outdoor meals) livens up weekend evenings.
The Sunday morning market
Sunday morning market on Place du Martroi (facing the château) 8am-1pm. Thirty stalls. AOP cheeses, Loiret vegetables, sourdough bread, honeys, Touraine wines. Friendly, inexpensive. Stay 30-45 minutes to shop, have a coffee on nearby terraces, watch village life. Meung's most authentic experience.
The Roquelin garden and Prés des Culands arboretum
East of the village, two remarkable gardens. Roquelin garden (private, open April-October, €8): 1500 rose varieties, guided tour, snack break. Prés des Culands arboretum (free, open access): rare species, ponds, educational trail. Plan 1h-1h30 per site. Ideal for botany and walking enthusiasts.
