In both cases the flight itself usually lasts around an hour, preceded by the spectacular inflation of the balloon and followed by the traditional glass of champagne once back on the ground.

The ballooning season in the Loire Valley runs mainly from spring to autumn, when the weather is most favourable and the landscapes at their most photogenic. Spring offers nature turning green again and forests still open to the view; summer, mild evenings well suited to dusk flights; autumn, the blazing colours of the forest of Chambord, especially spectacular from above. Flights depend closely on the day's conditions: too strong a wind, rain or thick fog will mean a postponement, decided at the last moment by the pilot for reasons of safety. This is why it is wise to plan your flight early in your stay, so you have a margin if the weather forces a change of date. Flexibility is part of the adventure.

From our house, most of these points are reachable in under an hour by road, which makes dawn flights entirely feasible, even at an early hour.
